A snorkel adventure awaits you at Hol Chan Marine Reserve! Depart from Fido's Pier by boat and head south east to Hol Chan (Maya for "Little Channel"), the first marine reserve established in Central America. Explore the coral reefs as you swim amongst the abundant marine life. Then head to your second snorkel stop, Shark Ray Alley. Friendly reef fish including snappers and jacks dart in and about graceful stingrays and the inquisitive brown nurse sharks for an experience not to be missed. After your personal encounter with the "friendly critters" you will be transferred back to the Town of San Pedro.

Xunantinich

XUNANTUNICH/BARTON CREEK CAVE(back to top)Duration: 10 hours (including round-trip domestic flight from San Pedro to Belize City)

The adventure begins with a scenic drive up the Western Highway to the Cayo (pronounced Ky-o) District. Xunantunich (Maya for "Maiden of the Rock") sits just inside the Western border of Belize. Before reaching the entrance of this ancient city, your party will board a 19th century handcranked ferry which takes you across the Mopan River. The ruins are actually located on one of the highest plateaus in the area and it is possible to climb to the top of "El Castillo", the largest of the temples at this site. From this vantage point, one gains a panoramic view of the Cayo District and nearby Guatemala.

Next, we continue to Barton Creek Cave in Amish territory. Equipped with canoes/kayaks and high-powered lights we gently paddle into Xibalba (she-bal-ba), Maya for underworld. Stalactites and stalagmites hang high overhead as we float past impressive calcite crystals. Your guide will discuss the use of this cave by the Maya, while some artifacts can be seen high above the alcoves.

Cave Tubing

CAVE TUBING & AERIAL TREK ZIPLINE (back to top) Duration: 10.5 hours (including transfer time from/to San Pedro Town)

Embark on a 1 hour drive to Caves Branch National Park, your adventure headquarters for today located near the Caves Branch River and its winding path through the Maya Mountains and numerous ancient caves once inhabited by the Maya. Your first activity is Aerial Trek which is a zipline tour through broadleaf rainforest and begins with a 10 minute hike through the rainforest to the starting platform. The tour features an intricate harness system of pulleys on horizontal traverse cables which lets you "zip" 100 to 124 feet between treetop platforms secured 70 feet high at canopy level. This level literally gives you a bird's eye view of all the tropical palms and trees. A truly unforgettable experience! Next, be prepared for a 45 minute jungle trail hike. Your guide will point out various plants, roots, and herbs once used by the ancient Maya. The entrance tunnel that heads into the underground cave system is the start of an "eye opening" adventure. Your guide hands out flash lights, and you are ready to float in inflated inner tubes assisted by gentle currents taking you through the cave system. Intricate crystalline formations line the caves and stalagmites and stalactites add to the serene opulence of nature.

Lamani

LAMANI & THE NEW RIVER SAFARI(back to top)Duration: 10.5 hours (including transfer time from/to San Pedro Town)

This is one of the most interesting tours in Belize. After an hour's drive up the Northern Highway, you board a riverboat at Tower Hill and head up the New River. While traversing the many little creeks and lagoons, it is easy to encounter hawks, kites and falcons. You may also see dainty Jacanas lightly walking on the lily pads while the crocodiles bask in the morning sunlight. At the entrance to the New River Lagoon, the ruins of Lamanai (Maya for "Submerged Crocodile") rise into view. While touring this site, huge masks depicting dead rulers and gods seem to materialize out of the rainforest amid the chatter of birdlife and the haunting call of the Howler Monkeys. Your guide will point out the Copal & Ramon trees that were of great importance in ancient times.

RAINFOREST ATV & JUNGLE CAVE TUBING (back to top) Duration: 7.5 hours

Board your tour bus for a 40 minute drive via the Western Highway to Peccary Hills National Park in Gracie Rock Village. First, your experienced guides will brief you on safety procedures for ATV handling, outline the route to be taken and issue protective gear and helmets. It is now time to explore the jungles of Belize on trails laid out over 100 years ago by loggers in search of precious Mahogany trees. Our trails are a good mix of various challenging terrains leading to the stop of the day, the Maya Caves. Here you explore caves once used by the Maya thousands of years ago. To the Maya, caves were considered portals to the underworld. These sacred places were used for important ceremonies conducted to appease the gods of the underworld. As you explore the cave, be on the look out for ancient ceramic pots forgotten for centuries. Who knows, you may be the one to spot an undiscovered find!

Continuing your drive on the Western Highway brings you to the Caves Branch National Park.

The majestic Maya Ruins of Tikal (Maya for "Place of Voices") are nestled in the dense jungles of the Peten region of Guatemala. This site has been extensively excavated and restored and is probably the most recognized and impressive of all the Maya Ruins in the Central American Region. At the start of the Classic Period, Tikal went to war with neighboring Caracol, located in Belize, and was defeated. Upon arrival at Tikal National Park, you begin the 4 hour tour of the site (including lunch stop), visiting the most important monuments, like Complex Q, R, Temple IV, Temple III and the Main Plaza, where you will find Temples I and II, the North Acropolis and the Central Acropolis. Depart Tikal Ruins for the return drive to the Belize Border and onward transfer to your hotel.

Caracol, located in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve, is considered one of Belize's flagship Mayan sites and its history actually tells of a military victory over Tikal.

On the return drive, enjoy the spectacular sceneries of the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve including waterfalls, limestone caves and cascading mountain streams surrounded by the majestic beauty of southern pine forests.
